New Business Development - Grow your business.

So you have your business off the ground, what next. Its is notable that when the proprietor of a small business gets going and reaches a stable turnover, then all creativeness goes out the window and that same persons hopes and dreams are then in danger of being washed away, because as anyone in business will tell you, you have to continually develop your business as nothing in this universe stays stagnant it will either go forward or slowly (even rapidly) die.

So what is new business development plan all about?

Well, in a to the point statement its about developing your business so it will flourish and prosper, however there are some key ingredients to making this happen, lets look over them.We have at this stage got the business off the ground, so what next:

Business Development Plan

It goes without saying you need a plan of action this would include a marketing strategy perhaps a government funded loan or grant and in addition a business strategy showing not only the plan but also how you are going to achieve it and the projected turnover, this would need to be written by you for the bank as most banks require some type of strategy or business planning statement.

Market Research:

This is a MUST, one must examine the competition in the field your business operates otherwise known as market intelligence. This is not for the sake of trying to just "run before you can walk" but if you research the competition marketing intelligence will give you a road forward and also the ability to employ successful actions the competition has employed and thus spring boarding you and your companies takings to higher levels otherwise called market analysis.

Intelligence - Gathering Data on competitors

This really does work, one would ideally seek to mimic a successful enterprise so in order to reach a similar client base that your competitors reach you have to employ business intelligence.

An example of this is a real life scenario. Many years ago I had a computer company that was doing ok, we bought parts from a local supplier and  no matter what we did we could never purchase these items and distributor prices, so I went along with one of my buyers to collect goods we had ordered, Whilst my buyer was chatting to the cashier, I noted on the back of my hand the  names of the original suppliers to the company we were making the purchase from. I did this around 10 time amassing my own little black book of distributors and then dealt with the directly saving my company a lot of money.

So intelligence in this case worked. The golden rule of thumb always do your homework.
